Dolly Deuce Prize,

My name is Sharon Western, and Lois was one of my bridge buddies. We are a unique group of women, some of whom have been playing cards together for over 35 years. Lois put up with us for the last 25 years. She was a fierce competitor and always played to win. I guess she must have enjoyed our monthly games because she actually kept all of her tally score cards. We looked forward to meeting at Lois's house. When she was the hostess and it got on towards time to bring out the dessert, she would call out "oh, Rudy" and Rudy would come downstairs and make the most wonderful gourmet coffee and desserts. Thanks, Rudy. Our club is unique in that we probably laughed more than we played cards. We also instituted what we called a "deuce prize". This was given to the person who last took a trick with a two of any suit. Lois was known more than once to check her watch to make sure time would run out so no one else would be the winner. This happened so often, we nicknamed her "Dolly Deuce Prize". The name must have stuck because, when she started buying things on eBay, she actually entered it as her user name. We don't seem to play any better than we did when we started but we had a lot of fun. None of us had much to be happy about after Lois's diagnosis in May but she kept our games upbeat and never dwelled on her illness. As a matter of fact, she would always surprise us with a new wig, hat or scarf. We will miss Dolly's unique personality and sense of humor. Here's hoping her heavenly bridge hands have forty points and four opportunities to win the deuce prize. [holds up card] Dolly, this deuce is for you!
