Cars

Okay, so we've owned a few cars; someone has to keep the economy going.  There are people who think we may be running on 2 cylinders; but everything we did seemed like the logical thing to do at the time.

Following is a list of the cars we've driven (or not).  "L" means Lois drove it; "R" means Rudy drove it, and "X" means it just sat around and depreciated.

We owned the '71 Mercedes 280-SL three times.  We were actually the 2nd, 4th, and 6th owners of the car.  It isn't apparent from the chart, but someone else owned it between April '82 and June '83.  Unfortunately, the last time we sold it, it was shipped to Germany, so when we wanted a 280 SL again, we had to buy a different one; SIGH.

Can we say "MITYFYN" car?  Because that's what the '95 Jaguar XJ-R was.  It was a real head-turner; let's face it, Teal is not the most conservative color ever put on a car, especially a Jag.  It had 322 horsepower and could go from 0 to 60 in 6.7 seconds.  That's because it was the Racing Version of the XJ-6.  But after only 40,000 miles, I burned up 2 exhaust valves.  Well, excuuuuse me; even going up the long grade from Mission Valley on 163 at 80 miles an hour, it was only doing 2300 rpm and it was still in 4th gear.  Since it didn't red-line until 5800 rpm, how the H-E-double toothpicks was I supposed to blow out the exhaust valves occasionally?  Anyway, that cost a pretty penny.  I decided I'd had enough of Jaguars.  They're lovely to look at, but you have to have a sense of humor about the repair costs... and I didn't.
